HD-2D Battle Kit for Godot 4
A downloadable asset pack
Find the weakness. Break the guard. Take the turn.
A complete turn-based battle system for Godot 4 — the HD-2D kind, where pixel-art fighters stand in a real 3D diorama under coloured light. Drop the folder into a project, open a scene, and you have a working fight running in about a minute.
GDScript only. No C#. No addons. No dependencies.
The break system
Every foe hides a row of face-down weakness tiles. Hit one with the right element and it flips over for good — the fight remembers what you found. Knock every pip off the row and the foe breaks: it drops flat, takes 50% more damage, and loses its next turns while you pile on.
That is the loop that makes a boss feel like a puzzle instead of a health bar, and it is the part most tutorials leave out.
What is inside
- battle.gd — the whole turn loop as one readable coroutine, not state-machine spaghetti.
- combatant.gd — stats, elements, hidden weaknesses, guard pips, status.
- skill.gd — data-driven skills: cost, power, element, target shape.
- element.gd — eight elements with one resist/weakness table you edit in a single place.
- battle_actor.gd + billboard.gd — flat sprites that stand up in 3D and always face the camera.
- battle_ui.gd, foe_tag.gd, floater.gd — command menu, target tags, damage numbers that arc and fade.
- diorama.gd — the lit stage: depth of field, rim light, fog, screen shake.
- demo/ — five scenes already wired up and ready to run.
Signals, so you can bolt your own game onto it
signal finished(victory: bool) signal turn_began(who: Combatant) signal hit_landed(victim: Combatant, amount: int, weak: bool) signal weakness_found(victim: Combatant, element: int) signal shield_broke(victim: Combatant)
Connect the ones you need and the kit stays a black box. Open the files and every one of them is commented.
Controls in the demo
Up / Down move the menu · Z confirm · X back · Left / Right switch target · Q / E spend a boost · R restart the fight · F1 title card
Requirements
Godot 4.4 or newer. Built and tested on 4.7, Forward+. Everything is GDScript — no C#, no addon to install, no third-party dependency, nothing to sign up for.
Licence
Use it in commercial and non-commercial projects, modify it, ship it, keep the money. The only thing you cannot do is resell the kit itself as a kit.
Funding goal — $150
Every sale of this pack goes straight into the next one. At $150 the HD-2D line gets a free Enemy & Boss Pack: new foes, a multi-phase boss script and a second diorama, pushed to everyone who already owns this kit at no extra cost.
Three dollars is deliberately cheap. If it saves you an afternoon, that is the trade.
More in this series
All four kits share the same camera, scale and palette, so they fit together.
- HD-2D Starter Kit: sprites in a 3D world, the diorama camera and day/night
- HD-2D Town Kit: a walkable village with dialogue, a shop and doors
- Pixel Weather Kit: six skies on one dial, with ground that stays wet
HD-2D Complete: all four kits for $8.
Disclosure
The art in this kit was generated with AI tools and then assembled, lit and rendered in Blender by hand. The code was written with AI assistance and then edited, commented and tested by hand. Every demo scene in the screenshots is the kit actually running.
