HD-2D Town Kit for Godot 4
A downloadable asset pack
Welcome to the HD-2D Town Kit!
A walkable HD-2D village for Godot 4: pixel people wandering a lit 3D town, a typewriter dialogue box with portraits and branching answers, a market stall you can actually buy from, and a door you walk through into a lamplit inn.
GDScript only. No C#. No addons. No dependencies.

This Kit Contains:
- A village set (Blender-built, source script included)
- Market square with four stalls, a well, a cart, lamp posts and a signpost
- Plastered, timbered, thatched and tiled houses on a cobbled square
- An inn interior with a hearth, tables and a bar (456 triangles)
- Pixel-art textures for cobbles, grass, dirt, plaster, timber, thatch, roof tiles and stone, plus the script that generates them
- 6 villagers
- 3×3 sprite sheets with a four-frame walk cycle
- A dialogue portrait for each
- Wander-and-rest behaviour; they stop and turn to face you
- Systems
- Dialogue: typewriter text, portraits, name plates, choices, jumps
- Shop: stock, prices, gold, affordability
- Doors that swap the whole set, with indoor lighting in one call
- The HD-2D camera: depth of field, sun, tonemap, glow
- A playable demo, plus an attract loop that walks the tour by itself

Conversations are data, not code
Every line in the demo lives in one dictionary. Nothing in the dialogue box knows who Halden is, and nothing in the script knows how a text box works — so a real game deletes that one file and keeps everything else.
"halden": [
{"who": "halden", "say": "You'll be the one from the coast road, then."},
{"who": "halden", "say": "Staying long?",
"options": [{"text": "A few days", "goto": 5},
{"text": "Just passing", "goto": 6}]},
{"goto": 7},
]
There are four step shapes and that is all of them: a line, a question with answers, a jump, and a flag that opens the shop when the conversation ends.
Doors that actually go somewhere
A door is a trigger box and a destination name. Walking into the inn swaps the whole set instead of opening a hole in a wall — which is how the genre does it, and what makes an interior affordable. The inn in the demo is 456 triangles.
Indoors the camera stops chasing you and frames the room, the sky goes dark, the sun drops to what gets through a window, and a warm lamp comes on. All four are one call: diorama.indoors(true).
The Scripts
- town.gd — builds the square, the cast and the doors, one file top to bottom.
- player.gd — camera-relative movement and the interact key.
- villager.gd — wander-and-rest around a home point, stop and turn to face you.
- walker.gd — 3×3 sheets, four-frame walk cycle, facing taken from heading.
- dialogue.gd — typewriter box, portrait, name plate, choices, jumps.
- shop.gd — stock, prices, gold, affordability.
- prompt.gd — the bobbing talk sign over whoever you can reach.
- diorama.gd — the look: camera, depth of field, sun, tonemap, glow, indoor lamp, pixel textures.

The HD-2D look, with the traps already sprung
The camera sits at −19°, FOV 48, standing off 15.5 m, with near and far blur, filmic tonemap and a glow threshold of 0.90. Two things bite everyone who tries this and both are fixed and commented where they bite:
- A billboard's normal always faces the camera, so a directional sun only ever grazes it. The kit leans on ambient and a rim light instead.
- Sky-only ambient paints every shadowed surface sky-blue — the houses came out as flat lavender slabs until warm bounce was added.
Controls in the demo
WASD or arrows to walk · E / Space / Enter to talk, advance and buy · Up / Down to move a choice or the shop cursor · Esc to leave the stall

Three dollars is deliberately cheap. If it saves you an afternoon, that is the trade.
If the kit saved you some time, a rating on this page helps other devs find it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Other Kits:
HD-2D Complete: all four kits for $8. They share the same camera, scale and palette, so they fit together.
Disclosure
The character art in this kit was generated with AI tools and then assembled, lit and rendered in Blender by hand. The ground, wall and roof textures are generated by a script in the kit. The code was written with AI assistance and then edited, commented and tested by hand. Every screenshot is the kit actually running.
